Hello Everyone,
Throughout the week the curriculum for the students teaching at VBS has been about God's Word. With each day our students encouraged the kids to first Know It, then Study It, then Believe It. Yesterday's challenge was to Live It. We have had oppurtunites all week to put God's love into action. Thursday was no exception. The morning started out with groups of students painting fences, mopping a gym, and completing daily chores. Another group had the oppurtunity to drive to the town courthouse and pray for wisdom for the judge. He was deciding that day if the senior citizen centers should remain open. It was a practical way for our stdents to show that they really cared. After several days of hard work the group spent lunch time at Pizza Hut for some rest and relaxtion. We were definitely a presence in the restaurant, but the students represented themselves well. We were even able to be served by Glenda. She is a waitress that has looked forward to serving our group for the past 10 years. She is just one example of the relationship building abilities that these consistent trips have. The rest of the day included a trip to Walmart for the Cody group, and another great afternoon at VBS. That evening the students were able to sit outside around the campfire to spend time reflecting on all God has done. We looked up at the stars together and listened to the words of Ps. 19. One of the students suggested we sing one more song before we closed. What a sweet sound to hear the voices of the students and staff proclaim How He Loves Us. After this we all headed inside for a slideshow of pictures. Then it was quickly off to bed to prepare for our last day...Today!
The final lesson is entitled Tell It. Our students have done this so well this week. Would you pray today specifically for 2 things? 1. That our students would continue in their boldness of the Gospel when they return home? 2. That the childen of the VBS who accepted Christ this week would continue to be discipled? They can take the gospel to places here that we cannot reach in such short a time. Thank you for all your support this week! It is hard to even believe we are saying this but...we will see you all tomorrow!

Hello Everyone,
Throughout Scripture we see the importance of remembering things that God has done. All week God has been moving among us, but yesterday in particular was a day that we will hold dear for years to come. After the service projects were completed we gathered outside on benches around a large horse trough filled with water. Then the students who expressed their desire to be baptized came up one-by-one. Each was asked how they came to know Christ, why they wanted to be baptized, and were given a verse chosen especially for them. It was an amazing sight to witness each of these young students stand up in front of all their peers proclaiming their love for Christ and their desire to obey Him. The other students and staff watched with appreciation and we as leaders praised God for the reminder of this act of worship. After the 10 were baptized everyone gathered around in groups, laying hands on them and lifting them up in prayer. Hearing these stories of faith along with much prayer and preperation, the students boldly and clearly presented the Gospel to the children of Kentucky yesterday afternoon. It was a day that brought several of us to tears. As we watched our students explain the Bridge-to-Life feelings of awe and joy arose within our hearts. We rejoiced that evening together as a group imagining so vividly all of the Angels rejoicing together in Heaven over the many precious souls that will be with Him in eternity.
Today the students will be doing service projects around the campus, along with praying for the senior centers in the area. For lunch we will be taking the students to Pizza Hut in Hazard to give Tona Johnson a break from cooking, as well as reward the students for a job well done yesterday. Tonight we will be having a campfire and I will be speaking to the 8th Grade students about this being there last event in HeartBeat. This will be a great night and opportunity for us as staff to encourage our students to the next phase of ministry that God has for them. Please pray for us as staff, we are all getting very tired and are in need of energy. Please continue to pray for the students that they remain attentive to the nedds that God has set before us for the kids of Kentucky throughout the remainder of this trip. Hello,
Yesterday started by dividing into two groups. The first group stayed on Calvary Campus and spent the morning helping out in a variety of ways. From painting the fences to cleaning the main living area. Some of those who had signed up to ride horses also got a chance to saddle up and ride around. The second group went to two senior centers to spend the morning in fellowship with the locals there. Teh played rummy, worked on puzzles, and more importantly just spent time with the senior citizens. Before leaving they performed several songs. After one of the hymns the students couldn't help but notice some tears in the audience and were so blessed when one of the elderly gentlemen raised his hand and said: "you kids are a BIG bright light for Jesus". That bright light kept on shining as the students carried out their second day of VBS. It was very hot, and there was a lot going on, but they really put what they were learning in devotions to use - spreading the Good News of the Gospel in all circumstances with a humble heart. We cannot express enough what a privelage it is to listen to these students recap at the end of each day ways that God is either working in them or through them. Last night we met in the chapel and with God's thunder and lightning outside we were able to praise God with creation for His countless provisions and answers to prayers. We know so many prayers are coming from back home. Thank You! and please continue to fervently do so.
Today I [Luke] have the privilege of baptizing 11 of our own students! It is a great experience for all of the students to take part in, and a great way for those 11 to show an outward sign of an inward reality that Christ is consuming them from the inside out. Please pray for the 11 students that are getting baptized this morning around 10:00 (9:00 central time). The students are: Kenzie Loughead, Olivia Jacobsen, Annika McIntosh, Kaitlynn Wellins, Lauren Slintak, Stephanie Lang, Tessa Thomas, Archer Johnson, Andrew Finley, Tim Patnou, and Ben Reese. There are still more exciting things to report, but I'm running out of time... Please be in prayer for VBS today, this is the day that the students are going to share the Bridge-to-Life with the children from VBS.

Hello Everyone,
Yesterday, Christ the Light of the World took on a whole new meaning, especially since we spent the first half of the day in the dark! Thunderstorms turned off the power at Calvary Campus, but that didn't stop the students from serving. After a great breakfast (while the lights were on) we took the divide and conquer approach and split the projects that we could do inside. Some students creatively and carefully cleaned bathrooms (in the dark) others helped with kitchen prep (in the dark) and the rest of the students met in the chapel and spent extensive time reviewing lessons and brainstorming indoor games for VBS (and you guessed it... in the dark)! Throughout it all the students had great attitudes which carried over into the first day of VBS. Which was much needed especially since the roads to Bulan in particular were flooded. Bulan ministry Team had a long trek to the church, but God provided safety for the vans. Despite the roads they had a great turnout of kids eager to be there. VBS went well at both churches and our students did such excellent jobs at their assigned stations. It was a day filled with Kingdom work through our youth. And we (staff) are being changed too. God is showing us all that he speaks to us everyday. It's just a matter of rememebering to: worry less, pray more, and give thanks!

Good Morning,
It is already very clear that God has been doing some amazing things on the trip. As we were canvassing yesterday there were numerous houses that we went to that the parents came out and told us: "he/she has been waiting for you guys to come back, this is their favorite week of the summer". It was great to see some familiar faces in the pews at church and reconnect with friends from last year. The students are all doing a great job, and I am very impressed in the way that they've carried themselves up to this point. Today we will be starting the service projects around the Campus and VBS will be starting this afternoon as well. Please pray for both of these areas as we begin our day. I hope that all is going well back home, talk to you tomorrow!

Hello Everyone,
After a long drive yesterday and arriving at the camp around 9:00PM, and eating dinner around 11:00PM the staff and students finally ahd a chance to go to sleep. Only to rise up at 6:30AM this morning. God has already been stirring in the hearts of the students and staff on the trip. This morning we went to the churches that we are partnering with this week in ministry and had the chance to worship with them this morning. This afternoon we went out into the neighborhoods and invited the kids to VBS. We are all very tired and will be going to bed early tonight. Tomorrow, we are starting on the service projects around Calvary Campus and VBS begins as well. Please pray for a smooth day at VBS and for the kids and families in the neighborhoods to have a positive time at the ministries that will be taking place. That's all for now, talk to you soon!

KENTUCKY CAR WASH CANCELLED!!!

We are yet again cancelling the Kentucky Car Wash due to weather. There is a 70% chance of thunderstorms and there is a cell that is moving up from the southwest toward Rockford that looks like it will hit us around 2:30-3:00pm. I am sorry for the delay in the Car Wash and the cancellations. We just want to make sure that the Students have the best weather, so they can earn as much as they can toward the trip. We will be rescheduling the Car Wash for: Saturday, June 4 from 11:30-4:30pm. Please be praying for good weather. Below are a couple links that show the weather loops that are coming in. It is supposed to be in the low 60's on Saturday, so be sure to dress warm.
Be sure to wear comfortable loose clothing for the low-ropes course.
Open-toed shoes are NOT allowed, please be sure to wear a tennis-shoe or some sort of hiking boot.
Be sure to pack a bag lunch. Dinner is provided... lunch is NOT.

Fall Retreat 2010 is here! I am very excited to see what God is going to teach us this weekend. Here are some reminders of details that you may be interested in:
1. Please have your student at the Church (door D) checked in and in the HeartBeat room by 4:45pm tomorrow afternoon.(Check-in begins at 4:00pm)
2. We will be staying at Lake Geneva Youth Camp and Conference Center, in Lake Geneva, WI. If you need to reach your student please call the camp, and they will relay the message to me. The camp number is: 262.248.5500. (Remember students are not allowed to bring their cell phones).
3. We will be returning back to the church by 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon. I will let you know about our status on the way home via: twitter.com/hbym. I will also use this as a means to let you know that we made it there safe.
If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask me tomorrow afternoon. Please be in prayer for both the students and the staff this weekend, and that God would truly impact lives for His Kingdom's sake.

Hello,
This is our last morning at Calvary Campus. This morning we will be cleaning the camp and packing our things. Once we leave the camp we won't be coming back until next year. This is also our last day at VBS, with that please pray for the kids that we've been ministering to. As previously stated this is our last day for VBS and many of these students won't have the opportunity to hear the Gospel between now and next year. Please pray that God would pierce their hearts for a longing for Him. Just a reminder that tonight we'll be staying at the quality inn and suites in Winchester, KY. The contact info in case of an emergency is located on the information card. We can feel God's presence moving in big ways on the trip and the students can't wait to share stories when they get home. Thanks for the prayers.

Good Morning,
Just got up bright and early, some students getting ready to visit a senior center 10 min. down the road. Others getting ready to do some work around campus. Either way, each and every one of these students has shown that they have the ability to be great leaders through their hearts of servitude. Yesterday God answered prayer in so many ways: 1. There were a number of VBS kids who came to know Christ yesterday, 2. There were six of our own students that got baptized, 3. It was supposed to rain yesterday morning from 1:00am until yesterday afternoon and when we got up yesterday morning there wasn't a cloud in the sky, 3. Jamie Reynolds (Campus director) went to the doctor yesterday for his one-year check up for the Kidney Cancer that he had and the check up came back negative and he is still cancer free!, 4. We as a staff saw an attitude change for the better amongst the students and had a really impactful day yesterday as a team. God is faithful and answers all prayers in His timing, and His own way. Nonetheless the students are learning that they follow a God that loves and cares for them and hears their every word. Today we are also going to take the students to Pizza Hut and half of the team gets to make their famous walmart run. Tonight we'll be having a campfire and sharing more ways that we've seen God moving on this trip, as well as have a time of musical worship. All is well here and we're looking forward to sharing more stories with all of you when we get back home.

Baptisms & Bridge to Life Day

Hello,
The internet went out this morning... just got it back working. It's hot and very humid here. Today we are doing the baptisms. And the students will be sharing the bridge to life gospel message with the kids they are leading in VBS. The students that got baptized today were: Joshua Thor, Annamarie Dishner, Amber Stephens, Seth Geddes, Jacob VanCleve, and Jared Reese. Each one of the students shared their testimonies, and made their profession of faith in front of the peers and staff. It was awesome to see hoe God moved among the entire group through these six students. Please continue to pray for these students throughout the day, and those kids that will here the gospel message at VBS this afternoon. Also pray for all of the students this afternoon wen they're sharing the bridge to life. Things are going well, we're all having a good time, and most of all God is impacting the students and those that we're ministering to.

Senior Center Visits Today!

Good Morning,
We had a great first day of VBS yesterday at both churches and we are looking forward to what God is going to do today. The students did an amazing job of interacting and teaching the kids that showed up. I think I see some potential Children's ministry directors in the making. Today for our service projects the students will experience something a little different. We are sending out two groups, to two different Senior Centers this morning as their service projects. The students will be performing some of their VBS songs/puppet skits and also visiting with the seniors who live there. This is a great opportunity for our students to be able to interact with someone who has experienced life. Please pray that the seniors in the center would have a lasting spiritual impact on the lives of our teens. Later this afternoon we will be doing the VBS as usual and having a normal night. Tomorrow we are already looking forward to 6 students getting baptized. I will share the names of the students in tomorrow's update. Hope things are going well back in the Rockford area. We appreciate all of the prayers!

First Day of VBS!

Good Morning,
I just heard Al blow the whistle upstairs for all of the guys to get up. We had a great day yesterday at the churches, and out canvassing in the neighborhoods. The congregations and the pastors were all very grateful and excited to see the students again. Cody Bible Church students had the chance to listen to a folk music group of two men yesterday after church. And Bulan had the chance to eat Lee's Chicken... (Put's Kentucky Fried Chicken to shame). We had an early night to bed last night, and are refreshed for the day today. We'll be doing some service projects outside of the campus and then going and doing our VBS'. Today be praying that God would bring some students to the VBS that are ready to hear His Word. Thanks for your prayers... Talk to you tomorrow.

Good Morning From Kentucky

Good Morning,
Day 1 of Kentucky is here! We arrived safe last night around 7:00 Central time. It was a great drive and made it here in a timely manner as well. Last night we met the director of the campus: Jamie and his wife Rachel along with their two kids: Austin, and Heather. This morning we'll be going to the churches we'll be doing VBS at and then we'll go into the neighborhoods and canvas for kids to come to the VBS. God has already done some amazing things on the ride here and has already set the students' hearts toward the meaning of the trip. Today pray that as the finnishing touches of VBS are put into place that we would finish in a timely manner and that the students would continue to come together as a team during this process.
